NATHAN FARRINGTON, Double Bass
Nathan Farrington is a bassist, singer, composer, and artistic producer whose wide-ranging artistry consistently defies the limits of the concert hall. Principal Bassist of LA Opera since 2016, he is a regular presence in the bass sections of America's top orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, and Minnesota Orchestra. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with the Principal Bassist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, he has appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony, and the Minnesota Orchestra, and has been featured in orchestra festivals and chamber series across the country. Beyond orchestral work, Farrington is an active singer, arranger, guitarist, and theatrical producer, working across genres with the same ease and depth of expression he brings to the classical stage. He is a founding member of the East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO) and a co-founder of In Triplicate, an innovative ensemble that pursues a bold vision of what chamber music can be, partnering with cellist Clancy Newman and violinist Jasmine Lin. His curiosity, range, and warmth as a collaborator make him a uniquely valued presence at festivals including Marlboro, Moab, and ChamberFest Cleveland.
