2025 Summer Festival
July 14-19, 2025
Manuscripts that languished in libraries for centuries; composers who fell out of favour, only to be restored to their former glory long after they died; documents that barely survived the atrocities of war (and a composer who didn't); and masterpieces resurrected from the waste basket – Lost & Found will bring these and many other musical treasures to our fourth annual festival.
Everything old is new again. History repeats itself. But music, dear chamberhood, cleanses the soul. And that’s magnificent.
What’s shoulder season?
If you’re an athlete, it’s time to prepare and repair. If you’re a hotel operator in Banff, it’s a brief lull between tour bus mayhem and winter’s wonderland. For CFW, Shoulder Season keeps us connected with our Calgary chamberhood throughout the year, while expanding to communities outside Calgary.
Our spring Shoulder Season concerts are May 8th at Calgary’s St. Stephen’s Anglican Church and May 10th at Canmore’s artsPlace. Both feature Roman Rabinovich on piano, cellist Jonathan Swensen (featured in this video from CFW’s 2023 festival), and violinist Alexi Kenney.
The programs include a new composition for violin and piano by Roman plus Poulenc’s Cello Sonata and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio in A Minor.

Extraordinary Performances
Each of our summer festivals is a unique experience shared with our audience. The fusion of feelings each listener has to a live, intimate performance creates a special collective moment that lives beyond the concert hall.
International Musicians
ChamberFest West brings internationally acclaimed classical musicians to perform with some of Canada’s best and together they create a unique fusion of styles and interpretations.
What is Chamber Music?
Chamber music is composed for performance by a small group of instruments—traditionally a group that could fit inside a palace chamber. There is usually one performer per part and chamber compositions frequently resemble a conversation among the musicians. As a result, playing chamber music requires special skills, both musical and social, that differ from the skills required for playing solo or symphonic works. Performances become a personal experience between the artists and the audience.
